One of my dreams was to meet Gerry Sandusky, the voice of the Ravens, from WBAL 11 News. I learned that you need to go after your dreams and work towards them in hopes of making them come true. Well, I sent an e-mail to the Sports Department directing a message to Mr. Sandusky and sharing with him that he was on my Bucket List. I received a return message from him that evening saying that he would be happy to make it happen. Ryan and I were invited to be his guests last night for the evening news. We received a tour, watched the 6:00 news from the studio and got to spend some time with him afterwards.
Mr. Sandusky is so talented. He travels with the Ravens and is the play by play commentator for every game. He reports for all teams in Baltimore (and others as well). Needless to say when I received his e-mail I was thrilled and screaming and filled with warm fuzzies. I couldn't believe it.
I left work early and we drove to the station. We stopped at the security desk to sign in and the lady was pretty funny telling me that we'd have to wait for an hour, because he had to work on a report. I'm guessing she saw how nervous and excited I was. What was really cool was that there was a piece of paper next to the phone that had Ryan and I's name on it. There were nice couches and chairs in the lobby and she invited us to sit down. Of course, I couldn't. I stood up with my hands clinched walking back and forth looking at the door that he would walk through. After a few minutes I saw him walk towards the door and I almost passed out. Several years of wanting and dreaming (not knowing all I needed to do was share them) and he was there!!! Ahhhh! He took us on a tour of the newsroom and showed us the camera room sharing with us how everything works. I'm such a girl, because when he talked to us I couldn't stop looking at him. I was scared it was a dream and he would go away.
Right before 6:00 he brought us into the studio and gave us two chairs to sit in right behind the cameras. That was awesome. We saw the whole broadcast including when Gerry did his sports report. After the news we were able to take pictures. I think Gerry was having way too much fun, because he was all over the place taking pictures of Ryan and I with Ryan's camera. It was kind of cute actually. Ryan then took some pics of Gerry and I. Wow! Needless to say, I did not want to leave and it was hard to say goodbye. It was very hard to walk out the door, but I left with a huge smile on my face and a sense of fulfillment as I was so grateful for the opportunity that he gave to us and for making my dream a reality!
One of my bucket list items complete. I'm so glad it started with this one. It couldn't be better.
How exciting! Good for you.
