Kommool Tata Majuro!

Fifteen years ago I left for Majuro.  I was leaving to teach a classroom of 2nd graders and I was SUPER excited and SUPER nervous!  I spent time researching the island, the language, the culture and spent a lot of time with my teacher friends developing lesson plans.

I was 19 years old, quiet and shy and this was my first time away from home (other than college).  I remember leaving for the airport at 3:00 in the morning.  It was such a bittersweet moment.  I had to leave my family and friends, but I was on my way to this tropical paradise.  Wow!

Just arrived at the Honolulu airport with some of my new Student Missionary friends

The beautiful atoll of Majuro

First step off the plane in Majuro and I felt the shock of heat!  It was very hot, but it was also very beautiful.  A few days later I saw my students walk into our classroom.  I never thought I could love 27 little children so much before.  I wanted to be the best teacher that I could be.

Math time (I loved my teacher assistant).

The memories from Majuro are priceless.  I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary.  It's amazing how a tiny island 8,000 miles away can change your life.  Still can't believe it's been 15 years.

Kommool Tata (Thank you so much) Majuro!
