Daddy's Little Girl

It has been nineteen years since Daddy drowned in Virginia's Lake Anna and each day seems like the first.  I am however, holding onto the sweet, precious and happy memories.

Recently, I spent time with my Mom and Aunt Nancy and they helped me to remember some of the fun and exciting times with Daddy.  Here's just a few:
  • Riding my Strawberry Shortcake Big Wheel up and down the sidewalk waiting for Daddy to come home from work.
  • Running (even though you're supposed to walk inside) from one end of the apartment to the other where Daddy was waiting to pick me up and twirl me.
  • Sharing french fries with Daddy while he ate hamburgers at McDonalds.  According to my Aunt Nancy, french fries and McDonalds were some of my first words.
  • Driving through the local car wash.  I loved watching the soap and water come over the car. Daddy was so sweet in sharing this small joy.
  • Going to my Daddy's baseball games and cheering him on from the bleachers.  Daddy was a player for his church's baseball team.
  • Fishing...lots and lots of fishing!  I remember the first time Daddy showed me the worms for his bait and I freaked!  He tried to teach me how to hook it on, but I'm not sure how far he got.
  • Watching westerns every Saturday afternoon.  I would watch the cartoons in the morning and then at 1:00 it would turn straight to Gunsmoke, Rifleman, Big Valley and Bonanza (just to name a few).
  • Taking me to see Batman (starring Michael Keaton) and having to deal with me having a crush on Keaton afterwards.  He was so patient.
  • Making my two little chairs for my Cabbage Patch Kids.

I loved him so much and I loved being Daddy's little girl!
