University of Maryland Epilepsy Monitoring Unit/ Day 2 (Friday, April 5, 2013)

My second day at the hospital was also the opening day for the Orioles.  Needless to say it took Ryan and my Mom about 45 minutes to park.  Apparently there were even cones in front of the hospital's parking garage.  Ryan said that he lowered his window, told the attendant why they were there and he let them in.  I was so glad when they finally arrived.

Before I arrived here I was told that this will be a very boring process while I wait for the seizures to occur.  I have been okay (except for when after Ryan and Mom leave), however Ryan became sleepy yesterday.  I had them bring Platinum to me, my nice chocolate colored teddy bear that Ryan used to propose to me with, to hold (as well as my dolphin) during the shots, tests, etc.  Well, Ryan used the bear to assist him in nap time.  So cute...

Later during the day he used Platinum to watch over my bed while I had to step away for a minute.  He always knows how to make me smile...

There were some scary activities yesterday.  One of the lab consultants came in to perform some tests.  The first was staring at flashing lights with my eyes opened and closed.  This lasted for five minutes.  The second was forced hyperventilation.  I had to take deep breaths for three minutes straight.  I found out afterwards that they discovered some increased brain activity with the breathing.  Due to no actual seizures they lowered my Dilantin and will be taking it completely off on Saturday.  Hopefully this helps.  I know it sounds strange, but I so badly want to have a seizure.

One of the other negative attributes is the food...of course.  I barely ate my dinner so I was treated to some sushi from the cafeteria  So much better.

Well, just like the song says "One day at a time".
