50th Anniversary/March on Washington

There are so many benefits to working in Washington and one of them is being in the center of the excitement during special and historic events.  This past Wednesday our country celebrated Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.  It was already a special day, but what made the day even more special was that the 50th march started on the steps of one of our buildings.

I was walking to work from Union Station and saw this as I got closer...

There were crowds of people and you could feel the energy and excitement through the busyness of it all.  I wanted to take a picture with the horses (they were so cute), but I figured that may not be very professional since I was at work.  One of my co-workers and I went outside to watch the beginning of the march begin.  It was so neat watching the original marchers from 50 years ago march again.

At 3:00 bells across the country rang in honor of when the speech began and the Law Center was part of that celebration.  The bell from our clock tower rang for five minutes.  It was so special that we were part of the celebratory "ringing" across the nation.

One of my friends works for the Visitor magazine (a Seventh-day Adventist magazine) and she shared my thoughts (as well as others) about the day in one of the online articles.  Here is the link if you would like to read...http://www.columbiaunion.org/article/1343/news/2013-news-archives/august-28-2013-50th-anniversary-march-on-washington-draws-columbia-union-members#.UiKEEp3D-Ul

I was a little disappointed that we weren't closed and that I didn't have tickets to see the services at the Lincoln Memorial.  I watched it online, but it would have been so neat to see it in person. Though, I still have to be grateful.  Watching it begin was really neat.
