Former Blog: Chicago Day One 2010

Day One of our trip to Chicago was quite interesting. Ryan and I walked part of the city looking for a certain chocolate shop, Fannie May who makes incredible chocolate. Bad part-they were all sold out of Ryan's favorite-darn. The walk gave us great exercise and quite an adventure. Several (okay lots) of people came up to us asking for money or trying to sell things and we witnessed an almost fight over two drug dealers arguing over who's corner was who's to sell heroine. Pretty scary, but we made it.

However, the real treat was going up to the 103rd story of the Willis/Sears Tower. Walking around the sky deck was great, but not enough for Ryan and I. No, we had to step out onto the "ledge". This is a clear glass box that they made that extends away from the building and there is nothing under you except for the glass holding you from dropping almost 103 stories to the ground. Yes, we're crazy and it was a great head rush. Here are some pics. This first one gives you an approximation of what the box looks like. I stood in one while Ryan stood in the other across from me to take the picture (if you look at the bottom you'll see what I mean about the floor):

This picture was actually scarier to take then standing out in the box. Both Ryan and I decided to sit in the box. I don't know why it was scarier, but I know even though I'm smiling my heart was pounding and I'm trying not to look petrified:

Here's a cute pose of us just standing in the box:

Mmm...lunch! A veggie Chicago stuffed pizza. Very, very filling:
